I know I didnt post anything about this race, but I though I would post a little recap about it anyways. There was a great turnout, as there were well over 260 racers out there. The course was fun and challenging with a good mix of all types of terrain. Everything was ridden from tight technical single track to 5th gear pinned sand washes.

I had a great time. Didnt have any wrecks although I had a few close calls. The bike ran amazing, but my gearing was to short as I was wide open MANY times in 5th gear for long periods of time through the sand washes wishing I had a 6th gear. I never thought that my biggest issue would be my bike not being able to go fast enough. I guess I will have to drop a tooth off of the back sprocket and see how that helps for next time. I ended up getting 7th place in my class which had over 70 people in it. All in all a fun day of racing. I cant wait for the next round.

Kathy and I were in Oreana that Saturday as well. Really strange weather. It even snowed on us around 8:30am all the way from Murhpy to the turn-off from the main road. Then it cleared up and was dry for the rest of the entire day. We passed a ton of bikes so we figured out that SIDRA must have been sponsoring a race.

Yeah, the weather was crazy that morning. As I drove through the snow I was thinking man I hope we dont have to race in this, but it ended up being perfectly clear and sunny the whole time for the race. It turned out to be an awesome nearly dust free race!

So when are you going to get out there and run some of the races with us Kim? I think you would have fun, and I can guarantee you that there will be guys out there racing that are alot older than you too so thats no excuse...

Well they might be older than me, but they are also better than me! I just don't ride all that fast anymore. Once, IdahoMX and I were riding out behind Rabbit Creek and I was in 5th, going as fast as I could. I looked back at him, he grinned, smacked the throttle and I didn't see him for the rest of the day. (and he's old too!) Rolling Eyes

There is no minumum speed requirement or anything. Just think of it as a nice long trail ride that has a perviously designed route to follow. Nobody would be forcing you to ride outside of your comfort level. If there are faster people behind you then who cares, that faster guys WILL find a way to get around you, and if they cant get around you then they can sit behind you and eat your roost until they can pass you. Just ride your own ride and have fun. And if you do the sportsman or the some of the vet classes you only have to run one lap. I think it is just a fun experience all around no matter if your just out riding for the fun of it or if you are trying to be competetive. I think if you come into the event with the mind set that you dont care what place you finish and that you just want to enjoy a nice day of dirtbike riding you would have a blast.

Thats pretty much all I do. I just ride at whatever pace feels comfy to me, and try to make it an enjoyable learning experience rather than have an "I must perform well or else" kind of attitude and then I just take whatever finishing position that I end up getting. I am not a points racer anyways so I just go to have fun and to push my self.

I agree with that, I wanted to run as a learning experience on my bike, Dont care if others are faster or slower.

I have ALOT of learning left to do before I would even think of considering myself a fast racer so for now it is just a fun thing to do with some friends. Pretty much the only people that I really try hard to beat are my friends just for friendly bragging rights back at the trucks. Right now I could be considered to be a B level racer in the desert stuff and C level in the MX stuff. But I get better every time I get in the saddle again. When I get into the A level stuff then I will get super serious about competing. Until then it is just a super fun way to kill a day on a motorcycle.
